It can be difficult to know what to look for when you are shopping for a new aquarium. There are a lot of options in aquariums and a lot of places that you can buy them from.
Unfortunately there are mistakes to be made when purchasing your aquarium which you may live to regret for the life of that aquarium.
If you get a aquarium which is too small for your needs you will never be able to have the fish you want.
If you get an aquarium which has substandard accessories you could find yourself having to replace all the add on items such as the filter, pump, lighting, etc.
You don’t want to make these mistakes of course but knowing how to avoid them can be tricky but really it just takes some prior knowledge and some common sense.
Tip number 1. If it seems to good to be true, it probably is.
If you get an offer of a second hand aquarium or you find an offer in a buy and sell ad or there is a massive reduction on an aquarium in an otherwise reputable store, make sure you check the product out fully before you make any purchases. If someone can sell a product for more than they are offering it for there has to be a reason for it. They don’t want to do you any favours so don’t assume that they do.
BEWARE SECOND HAND PRODUCTS
Although there are lots of places that you can purchase your products online we would advise against buying second hand products.
Having said that if you are getting a very good bargain and are paying so little that the risk is worth the reward then definitely make the purchase. Just do your homework first.
If you want to be sure that you are getting a quality product which won’t be warped, contain harmful bacteria or have one of a thousand other little problems then you should buy a quality new aquarium for sale that will last you for years.
Tip number 2. Get advise from a professional.
Too often people assume they just need a normal sized aquarium to put normal fish into and that they don’t need any bells and whistles on with the aquarium cause they just want it for normal things. This sounds fine except no aquarium is normal, big or small, saltwater or freshwater, whatever the choices there are many different options.
We recommend that to ensure you don’t fall into any traps caused from a lack of knowledge you should invest in the comprehensive ebook Ultimate Secrets for Saltwater Aquarium Fish and Invertebrates.
This guide is focused on saltwater fish but by detailing how saltwater fish differ from freshwater fish it actually covers both. This ebook is ideal because it walks the reader through the full cycle of fish keeping from setting up your tank through to keeping your fish healthy and happy.
Tip number 3. Spend as much as you can afford.
When you are buying an aquarium the more space you can get the better and the better the accessories you can get the more you will save down the road. Don’t skimp on the expense of buying the aquarium when you will only have to dish out more money later and may ultimately end up with an aquarium which needs to be replaced after only a couple of years.
COST IS ALL RELATIVE
One of the things that people complain about with new aquariums for sale is how expensive they can be.
If you want to get the 600 litre Aqua One Aquience – for example – you will be spending over a grand.
However even at this high a price you can still make the argument that this is a great value aquarium for sale.
The 600 litre Aqua One will probably be the only tank you need for the next 20 years or more. We’ll assume that you only have the tank for 20 years and then you throw it out.
That means that by spending your initial €1000 you got 20 years worth of tank, that’s €50 a year!
If someone gave you the option of renting a 600 litre tank for them and all they wanted was €50 a year I don’t think may of you would say no.
That’s why most of these high quality aquariums are actually very good value for money and only the cheap aquarium for sale will end up costing you more in the long run.
Most high quality aquariums will last for a minimum of 10 years so when you are going to buy your aquarium for sale, divide the number by 10 and ask yourself if this is a fair price for renting the aquarium. If it is then you are going to get a good deal.
